Morgedal/Ski Museum
Morgendal is the birthplace of modern skiing as well as it's founder Sondre
Norheim. We will visit the new ski museum there.
Eidsborg Stave Church
This time around we'll have time to look at the interior of this beautiful
13th century church.
Laardal Bygdetun
The Laardal Bygdetun is considered the best local museum in all of Telemark
with two ancient farmsteads in their original settings. It includes a
display on the Eidsborg Whetstone Quarry, Norway's oldest commercial quarry
and the country's oldest export product.
Aamdals Verk Mining Museum
Mining activities were carried on from 1540 to 1945 in Telemark. This
museum offers exhibits and guided mine shaft tours. (Tentative).
Hotel Dalen
This is the largest wooden structure in Northern Europe and one of the
few surviving tourist hotels in the extravagent pseudo-Viking style from
the 1890's, it has recently been restored. We may even eat Lunch in this
beautiful building.
Grimdalstunet
Grimdalstunet is the famous sculptress Anne Grimdalen's childhood home.
It is an ancient farm whose history goes back to the Middle Ages. It is
now a district museum and gallery.
Flatdal
Flatdal is a flat valley floor nestled between steep mountainsides it
is the location of the only true village in Norway, with its farms arranged
side by side around a country courtyard called the Tunvollen.
Nutheim Inn
This romantic inn has been home to visiting artists for well over 100
years, and it affords a breathtaking view of the Flatdal Valley below.
Tuddal
Many fine old protected buildings stand in the Tuddal valley which extends
to Mount Gausta. It is home to the Buen Kulturverkstad, or Buen family
cultural center.
Bø
Bø is the location of the educational center of Telemark: Telemark District
College, home of the Tele Historielag. The Telemark Disctrict College
has long been the center of traditional Hardanger fiddle-making and music,
and is now home to a new Hardanger fiddle museum.
Henrik Ibsen's Venstop
This is the childhood home of Telemark's most famous son, and includes
an exhibition of his work and childhood in Skien.
