Snowshoe Thompson Home Page

John Torsteinsen Rue, born in Tinn, Telemark, became known in the Sierra Mountains as "Snowshoe Thompson".

Gene Estensen, Telelaget member, was one of the speakers at the dedication of a statue to Snowshoe Thompson in Genoa, Nevada. You can read the speech presented to a group of 40 visitors from Telemark, Norway and to the Norwegian-American "cousins" in the United States here. In preparation for the dedication, Gene prepared an article describing the early years of Snowshoe in Tinn, Telemark, and of his brave mother who brought her son to America.

Also, there is a website in "Tahoe Country" with a memorial to Snowshoe.

Sue Knight reports that an organization has been formed in Genoa, Nevada and it is called "Friends of Snowshoe Thompson".
