Telelaget Stevne - 2008

Stevens Point, Wisconsin

7-Lag Stevne, was held July 16-19, 2008 at Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

The theme was "Land, Logging, and Legends". Stevens Point is the county seat of Portage County and is located just west of an area that was heavily settled by Norwegian immigrants in the 1850s. Many of these immigrants spent the winter months in Wisconsin's lumber camps, known as pineries. Life in the pineries was not for the faint hearted, but Norwegian immigrants were accustomed to working in the forests.

Anne Sladky of Landingslag offered up this link for up-to-date information on the stevne. This includes the schedule and registration information. Thanks Anne.

Here is the printable registration form for the stevne.

Elaine Nordlie kicked off an interesting project. She looked for the descendants of the pioneers who settled early in the area of Wisconsin where our stevne was held. This area was called Indian Land.

Many of the books owned by Telelaget of America were available for reading at the 7-Lag Stevne. Historically, MOST of these resources are available at Telelaget's genealogy tables at each stevne.
