He came to America from Tinn, Telemark in the year 1839 at the age of 42. His wife Thone Halvorsdatter was 30. They had one child on the journey to America:
Gunnil Høljesdatter, age 1.
Hølje was confirmed in Dal Parish in 1818 with the name Fosso.
