He came to America from Tinn, Telemark in the year 1843 at the age of 27 1/2 and a single man. He was known as the strong man of Tinn. In the Tinn Museum at Rjukan, Telemark is a large stone that Hans lifted at the age of 15, on his confirmation day. He married Aslaug Jacobsdatter Einung, also of Tinn, at Muskego. It is believed that he died at Spring Grove, Fillmore County, Minnesota.
